Equip Classrooms With Books That Reflect Every Student

At Handwoven Youth, we partner with schools in need of critical literature updates to co-curate mobile classroom libraries that showcase diverse voices, experiences, and perspectives.

These selected collections not only reflect the student body but also provide opportunities for students to take books home, addressing a crucial gap in equitable access to literature.

How are teacher book list requests fulfilled?

Teachers can fill out a simple form on our website to submit their book requests. Once approved, the requested books are added to our curated list on bookshop.org for donors to fulfill. Once purchased, the books will be sent directly to the address provided by the teacher.

What if I want to donate a specific book to a teacher?

If you’d like to donate or recommend any specific books, please email hello@handwovenyouth.org to be connected to our curator Millicent Steiger.

What if I need help curating my classroom book list?

Teachers needing assistance can reach out to Millicent Stiger, our book curator, or explore our curated lists for various grade levels. We encourage selections that reflect Handwoven Youth’s mission of promoting literacy, representation, and multilingual learning.

How are donations and books tracked and delivered?

All donated books are purchased through Bookshop.org and shipped directly to classrooms. This ensures transparency and allows Handwoven Youth to receive a small commission, which goes directly toward funding our programs.

How often are new classroom requests added?

New classroom requests are reviewed, approved, and added to the list on a monthly basis.
